LUCI Declaration for the Future of Urban Lighting

2023 | A vision document co-written with the LUCI Association

The Declaration words a collective vision for the future of urban lighting by 70 cities across continents, formulated as 7 goals for the future.

I was lead author in the co-writing process with LUCI member cities and the LUCI team.

The Declaration holds recommendations for adapting urban lighting strategies to climate change, new patterns of work, leisure and mobility, evolving technologies and a growing pressure on biodiversity. The underlying philosophy can be summarised as quality over quantity.

The Declaration is meant for everyone who makes decisions about city life after dark. Also available in Spanish and French. Dutch, Finnish and Korean versions are underway.
